How to Customize Windows 10/8 Start menu

The new start menu can be confusing. It’s a headache in Windows 8, but in 10 it’s pretty nice. You can do away with desktop icons altogether. First, you are going to want to add your personal folder links: Documents/Music/Downloads/Videos, etc etc. First, click on settings

      Then, click Personalization
Then, click this link to choose the folders:
Then turn on the folders you want to show up: Folders
And that’s it! When you are done, you will have these links on your start menu: Start Menu Personal Folders
If you want to add items to your start menu, you can click the “all apps” at the bottom, click the item you want to add, right-click it, and click “PIN TO START” (if it is already pinned, it will say “unpin” instead of “pin”) Once you get it added…at the bottom, you can righ-click it again to resize the icon, and you can drag them into whatever groups you want to set up.
